A Year in Review: A Life Interrupted. A Legacy Continued.

The first year of the Tim Gaskin Legacy Foundation has been a powerful journey of remembrance, service, and purpose.

Established on September 19, 2025, in memory of Timothy Leon Gaskin, Jr., the Foundation began with a commitment to transform loss into lasting impact. In October 2025, the Foundation received its official 501(c)(3) designation, creating a strong foundation from which TJ’s passion for competitive shooting, service, entrepreneurship, and helping others could continue.

Throughout the year, we worked to support youth and adult competitive shooters, promote firearm safety and responsible ownership, provide education and training opportunities, and strengthen the shooting-sports community.

Investing in the Next Generation

One of our proudest accomplishments was the continued growth of the Shooting Sports Scholarship Program. Recipients received assistance designed to reduce the financial barriers associated with competitive shooting, including memberships, equipment, training, mentorship, and opportunities to participate in the sport.

Our scholarship recipients—Jojo, Wyatt, Damarion, and Oliver—represent the future of competitive shooting. Watching them participate in the 2026 Tim Gaskin Go-Fast Memorial Match demonstrated what can happen when young shooters are given encouragement, resources, and a community that believes in them.

The Foundation also recognized Tripp W. as the Junior Shooter TGLF Stage Winner at the 2026 South Carolina Sectional Championship, further reinforcing our commitment to celebrating youth achievement. Additionally, Beglar V. as the overall Junior Shooter winner at the event.

Promoting Safety and Education

Firearm safety remained central to everything we accomplished. Through partnerships with trusted instructors, ranges, and community organizations, the Foundation supported educational programs including:

Women’s Day at the Range

Locked, Loaded, and in Love

Concealed Weapons Day

Youth firearm-safety and shooting programs

The Foundation also sponsored a youth at the Youth Firearms Camp at Sandhills Shooting Sports, providing them with a week-long opportunity to learn firearm safety, discipline, responsibility, and marksmanship in a structured environment.

Building a Pathway Through Youth Shooting Sports

Our partnership with Sandhills Shooting Sports reached another milestone with the formation of a Scholastic Action Shooting Program team serving Kershaw County and the surrounding Midlands.

Through SASP, student-athletes from elementary school through college can develop firearm proficiency, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship. Unlike many traditional sports, every participant has an opportunity to compete, grow, and contribute.

By supporting this new team, the Foundation is helping create a clear pathway for young people to safely enter and advance within competitive shooting.

The Second Annual Go-Fast Memorial Match

On September 4–5, 2026, more than 110 shooters gathered at Mid-Carolina Rifle Club in Gaston, South Carolina, for the Second Annual Tim Gaskin Go-Fast Memorial Match.

The match brought together shooters, range officers, volunteers, sponsors, friends, and families from across the region. It was more than a competition—it was a celebration of TJ’s life, his love of practical shooting, and the relationships he built throughout the community.

Seven stages, including a blind stage, challenged competitors while preserving the speed, energy, and fellowship that inspired the name “Go-Fast.”

The weekend also featured scholarship recognition, awards, a prize table, and the drawing for the 2026 Signature Memorial Pistol. Designed and donated by Pistol Plus and modeled after TJ’s competition jersey, the pistol served as a meaningful tribute to his life and legacy.

Growing Recognition and Community Support

The Foundation’s grassroots commitment received national recognition when USPSA Executive Director Alan Turner highlighted TJ and the Foundation in the article, “Building the Next Generation: Investing in the Future of Practical Shooting.”

That recognition affirmed what our supporters already understood: investing in young shooters, safe training, mentorship, and local shooting programs is essential to the future of the sport.

Our work was strengthened by partnerships with ranges, clubs, instructors, businesses, volunteers, and shooting organizations—including Mid-Carolina Rifle Club, Sandhills Shooting Sports, Champion Defense, Pistol Plus, Empirical Concepts Training, Rendezvous With Destiny, Team Hobo Shooters, and many generous sponsors.

Investing in Education: Gaskin/King Memorial Scholarship Partnership

Our first year also included support for education and entrepreneurship through the Gaskin/King Memorial Scholarship partnership. Established by the Gaskin family alongside Rev. Darrell and Rev. Mary King, the scholarship honors the lives of Timothy Leon “TJ” Gaskin, Jr. and Marcus Darrell King while investing in graduating seniors who demonstrate excellence and entrepreneurial promise.

The inaugural recipients, Presley H. and Delorion D., each received $750 during Brookland Baptist Church’s Youth & Teens Day celebration. Both previously participated in the Young CEO Summer program, making these awards a meaningful continuation of their growth as future leaders and entrepreneurs.

This partnership carries forward the spirit of TJ’s own entrepreneurial journey, helping young people turn ambition into opportunity while keeping two cherished legacies alive.

Looking Ahead

Our first year demonstrated that TJ’s influence did not end with his passing. It lives in every young shooter who receives an opportunity, every family that learns responsible firearm practices, every mentor who shares their knowledge, and every person who helps strengthen the shooting community.

As we enter our next year, the Tim Gaskin Legacy Foundation will continue expanding its scholarships, mentorship opportunities, youth programs, firearm-safety education, community partnerships, and support for competitive shooters.

What began as a family’s determination to honor TJ has grown into a movement dedicated to building opportunities, developing responsible leaders, and preserving the legacies of those who helped shape the shooting-sports community.

We are deeply grateful to every donor, sponsor, instructor, range, volunteer, shooter, family member, and community partner who stood beside us during this extraordinary first year.

Together, we are ensuring that a life interrupted becomes a legacy continued.
